Hope I could get some suggestions from other large spiney eel owners. I got a 18" tire track eel today, his previous owner fed it 25 rosey red minnows a week. I refuse to buy feeders so for now he'll have to learn to eat 1/4-1/2" convict and firemouth fry.

Just lookin for other food alternatives. He is currently housed in my 180g with 2 silver aros

Thanks for the help.

Srry no pics, he's a hiding right now:(

Yea the fry should be ok. Try krill. Mine loves it.

black worms and earth worms
:D

Ya I was gonna try earthworms, do you chop up or feed whole? The previous owner was feeding live black worms, he said the eel had became disinterested in them.

I'm hoping to get him to eventually eat market shrimp and shrimp pellets along with the cichlid fry and earth worms.

definatly night crawlers... if your intrested i know a trick to getting TONZ of free worms. but mine eats them none stop! got pics? please post them!

Try out silver sides. My ~20-24" fire eel takes market shrimp, worms, black worms, bloodworms, silver sides, krill, shrimp pellets, and beefheart.

Thanks for all the suggestions, looks like he is more in the 15-16" range. I'll try to get pics posted.

I used frozen.

Night crawlers will work to. You will be surprised what they eat. Try to feed mine the night crawlers before earth worms. They are bigger and you don't have to feed them every day.
