I recently tried feeding tilapia to my picky 14" silver arowana and he loved it. So far he is refusing to go back to other foods, krill and carnisticks. Is a steady diet of tilapia a bad idea? Is that a fatty fish? Thanks for the help.

Tilapia, in my opinion, is one of the best food you can provide your aro. the meat has a lot of protein. tilapia is an african cichlid and has been introduced into various corners of the world. primarily to be a cheaper food source for people. back to aros, try varying the food between tilapia and carni sticks.. def a good combo.. and once in a while prob crickets.

might be just a random question, but do you buy your tilapia in bulk ( costco etc ) or do you only buy what your planning on feeding your aro that day?

My guy loves Tilapia as well. In an effort to make sure he's getting all the vitamins he needs, I stuff a few floating carnivore sticks into every piece of food he eats. The tilapia is a firmer fish, so it holds a few pieces pretty easily. Same with the raw shrimp I feed him.

I also buy my Tilapia, and my shrimp, in bulk from Costco. I'm sure that's not the healthiest cut of fish, but I try to balance it out with the pellets I stuff in it.

wat kind of shrimp

Probably reffering to market shrimp aka common shrimp we humans whenever we order shrimp somewhere....But obviously raw.

My aro loves talapia and shrimp which he will pick up off the ground if my rays left some over. Besides that he eats my oscars hikari cichlid gold floating pellets... Trading that oscar tomorrow tho so I will be getting him on carnisticks.

do u feed the one with shells or the pink ones

Not sure what you mean by pink ones. I feed the kind that you get in an order of shrimp and broccoli at a chinese food place. They are pinkish ornage when cooked but grey when raw. I usually get the jumbo shrimps.

Pretty much you can go to any fish market or supermarket and purchase these. The ones I get do come with the shell but no head. I remove the shell after thawing out and chop into pieces (depending on the fishes size).

Make sure they are raw and not precooked. Can be fresh or frozen when you purchase. I buy a $20bag fresh and freeze them ina ziplock till I feed and break off a few at a time and thaw them out.
