I have a Crazy Fish Butis .... put him in my chiclid tank .... only seen him eat once so far (have had him for 3 weeks now) and that was a ghost shrimp he scored. Haven't been able to find any feeder shrimp around and trying to figure out if I've got anything he will readily eat. Frozed Blood worms and/or Shrimp brine, Chiclid Flake, shrimp pellets, spirulina sticks, and tubifex worms .... is what I have on hand. Looking for suggestions and/or insight if I'm going in the right direction.

They are hard to train onto prepared foods. What are you currently feeding your cichlids and the rest of your stock? You cichlids could essentially become "teacher fish" for the butis butis, but dont rely on them completely. Try and get some more ghost shrimp and gut pack them with a quality pellet food or any other prepared food for that matter, this will help ensure he gets some essential nutrients while weaning onto prepared foods. The butis I had years ago would readily eat frozen brine shrimp cubes, I didnt even bother to fully defrost it (seemed more natural to let him eat and rip chunks off at his own pace).

I tried for months to get him on pellets with no luck, he would mouth it than spit it out. Keep trying with yours though, maybe he'll be less fussy than most. A good smelly carnivore pellet may work with persistence and your teacher cichlids.

thanks once again Slippery K ... looks I've got what I need already by the sounds of it ... just have to keep a look out for some more ghost shrimp feeders in the mean time .... he must be eating something as I've had him for 3 weeks now and he doesn't look the worst for wear. And buy lots ... told my wife I'm thinking of picking up a smaller tank to start a shrimp farm ... need to look into it more but have heard its quite easy

Shrimp farms are easy, plus gives you a renewable source of good live foods, just be sure to gut pack them with quality foods so your other fish can benefit from it.

thanks SharptoothBass, ... I like him ... Didn't realize these were hard to find. The store had a least 12 in a tank for sale. Just wish I could see him eat more, then I'd have more confidence.

Iv only ever seen them for sale in person twice since I lost mine years ago. They arent exactly your "typical" fish you expect to see in a fish store.
