A parent showed up with a live mouse today as a treat for our school's Common Snapping Turtle. He caught it in his dog food and was going to kill it, but thought maybe it could serve a purpose as a "Snappy Snack".

Is there any problem feeding wild mice? It doesn't seem like there would be any diseases that would transfer from mammal to reptile, but you never know...

Quick responses would be appreciated, they want to feed him when school gets out!

Some parasites can transfer...I always worry more about the mouse having ingested poison...

Thanks,
That is an easy out. I was feeling a bit squeamish anyways (I shouldn't have looked into his beady little eyes).

We let the mouse go in the Christmas tree field across the street. It would have been interesting, but in the end I'm glad we didn't do it.
