Feeding young birchirs

If its real small you could quarter pellets for it or use frozen foods such as bloodworms to go along with the cichlid flakes-Anne

Hoe big are they (or is he) if their smaller than an inch ground pellets and blood worms will do the job. I have 2 inchers and i feed them feeder guppies cuz this makes them grow quickly.

Personally I avoid using live 'feeder' fish if at all possible due to the risk of introducing internal and/or external parasites or other diseases to my bichirs. Almost all of my smaller bichirs will gorge themselves on frozen bloodworms or pieces of broken up Hikari carnivore pellets.

Doing the broken pellet thing, seems to take a eternity for the little fella to get it down, and intrduced some B/H. He's still swimming so things must be looking up. Thanks for your replies, great help.:cool-1:

When my polypterus were very small I fed them mostly blood worms and beef heart. Those seem to work well and they ate quite a bit. Live blackworms work great also if you feed live food to your tank.
