Im new to native fish keeping and have never had problems just getting what i felt was good food in a can, But lots of natives ive found to be picky. I want to feed them healthy foods, and somehow feel just freezed dried, or frozen cant get er done. Has anyone had any problems with like chopping up worms etc. I tried a nightcrawler tonite, chopped up into small pieces, (got some smaller sunfish) and you would have thought they had found a long lost friend, snapping those worm pieces up like candy and even fighting over it, trying to take pieces away from their tank buddies. Its winter in Indiana now, so harder to get live foods, but wouldnt this be better for them??

A mixed diet is good. High quality pellets are a great staple diet for most fish; nightcrawlers are a nice treat but shouldn't be a staple.

agree with noto, get them on a high quality pellet as the staple...I'd go with anything that works good for CA/SA cichlids
