Feeding

Henry has never been fed live food. I always feed my oscars and cats feeder goldfish. He will grab one and when it wiggles in his mouth he spits it out. How do i get him to eat feeders ? He won't eat shrimp or pellets either. the pet shop said all they fed him was chiclid pellets but he doesn't care for them. Any suggestions ?

You don't have to feed them goldfish. You have better options such as chopped earthworms, bloodworms, commercial foods, etc. Try putting garlic on the other prepared foods to entice him to eat.

To start things off its actually good your Oscar doesnt like feeders. They are pretty bad for him, besides the fact they often carry disease. You should try moving him to a cichlid pellet or flake. If he doesnt go for any of those try frozen beefheart, or krill,..even bloodworms.

You don't want your fish to be on feeders. They carry diseases, parasites, and all kinds of other nasties. Try the hikari cichlid gold pellets (the red floating ones). Mine love those. They're not fond of the green ones tho..... If all else fails, don't feed him for a couple of days, and try again.
