What should I feed my pike? He is 3" and doesn't seem interested in anything yet, granted I have only had him two days, but is there anything in particular they like - besides live food?

try feeder guppys
or bloodworms, mysis shrimp, or hikari baby pellots
;]

Thanks I will try that. What other fish would be good with a pike? Mine will max out at 9" it is a C. lucius I believe.

umm cichlid wise

probably oscars, cons, midas

anything pretty much if you have a big tank

like 125 or more

I have a 55 gal that it is in. Any type of fish would be considered for the status of tankmate...

Most people here will tell you not to use live feeder fish because they are not healthy and you risk disease being transferred to your tank..
I feed my pikes live fat head minnows and goldfish bout 2-3 times a week, but I keep two 10 gallon tanks. one for new feeders (quarantined) and one for feeders that I have kept for at least two plus weeks. I feed them as well as I do my other fish and salt the tanks.
I never buy feeders straight from the lfs and throw them in my tank.
If you do I would at least do a heavy enough salt dip that they float in.
If not feeders try frozen krill or worms, black if you have them, night crawlers or red wigglers. Mysis shrimp or salad shrimp put in front of a powerhead so as to float or move around tank to mimic that they are alive.

Are most of the pikes available for sale wild caught?

When it comes to Lugubris Yes, Wild Caught. Now I know that quite a few of the Saxatilis group have been bred in captivity and also the dwarfs. As for as which ones some of the others here may know.

I got a dempsy to put in with my pike. THey seem to like eachothers company so far. Will they be ok in a 55 gal when they are adults? I tried to match aggression so I hope it works. ANyone have advice?

You should be OK especially if that is all you put in there and they are close to the same size. They should both reach about bout 8-9 inches.
You could also put some type of dither fish that schools, group of 4.
Silver Dollars are most common.
