I may be getting one any time soon and I need to know some info. How big do these suckers get??? I heard 13'', 8'' what is the truth?? What should these guys eat?? I heard alage, and flakes. Tankmates?? I am going to put him in a growout tank for now. In there already is 1 ID shark, 1. P. Panginus shark, 2 bala sharks, and 1 shubunkin goldfish. Does anyone else keep these? Pics?

Ive seen em around 1' in length, i have one at 8-9". He eats loads.

Enjoys algae in the tank, flake (usually spirulina or brineshrimp) frozen food, mussle, prawn and pelleted feed.

this is what I know of mine.

Size - Mine is over 12" closer to 14" I have seen VERY VERY few close to 16" but that takes a LONg time to grow that big.

Diet - Mine will suck on just about anthing. from algea to kens 9.5mm pellet to shrimp. He'll eat whatever but mostly he takes care of any algea.

Tankmates - Mine came out of a tank that had everything from Os to emp. chiclids and huge giraffe cats and a big niger. He then got housed im my tank with a 2' Hybrid cat. 28" silver aro. 10" jar. 14" marble cat and a big niger. So tankmates were never an issue with me. He was even housed in a 125 for a short time with CK plecos and two jags 8-10"

He's a great fish. Some say they are slow growers but when I got him he was around 2.5-3 years old at almost a foot. I think it's one of those big him room to grow and lots of food and he'll grow fast. but I am the only one who has heard of such growth rates that I know of.

Yep im keeping mine with bocourti, different species of geophagus, cats, clownloach, cichlid etc....

Hes not nice with my silver sharks though lol gonna split em up soon though.

Here's a pic of mine. I got it at about only 1 - 1.5" from the LFS, and in a few months, maybe 7-8 months, it is now about 6" in full length. So yeah, mine has grown quickly, but now it's growth rate has decreased. My tank is only a 120 by the way.
