fei feng sucking on gar!

hey guys Today i noticed that my feifeng is sucking on my gars! i was wondering if this is bad because i heard that it can affect their natural slime coating which protects them from diseases. Any suggestions anything would help. thanks!

yes, that is bad. what are you feeding the fei feng? do you have an iso tank that you could put the fei feng in? people have lost their gar to plecos sucking off the slime coating. just out of curiousity what type of gar do you have?

ive had my feifeng for about a month now and it was first doing fine and peaceful. I am currently feeding it cucumbers which are boiled first. im going to examine the situation a little longer to determine how serious it is. Thanks

mine used to to that to my jardini, after i started feeding him algae wafers (was feeding him veggies before) he stopped. not sure if that was the reason he stopped, but could be.

it's usually a dietary/feeding issue that will cause many fishes to start slime-sucking, but often times once it begins, it is hard to get them to stop. if you have a different tank you can put the fei in i would HIGHLY suggest doing it...it only takes one bad period of slime-sucking to leave the gar open to serious infection which can often lead to the death of the fish. plecos, synos, fei-feng are all fishes that really shouldnt be kept with gars because of this tendency--

i agree. my fei feng also does the same thing with my motoros which i have ignored and probably may have caused the death of my ray.

Start feeding your flagtail FD krill and it will stop sucking off your gar. That sounded kind of perverted.

Although a lot of the time, it starts with a poor diet, but really its hit or miss on the fish. Some will do it some won't, but it often leads to the demise of the other fish, and so you'll probably have to seperate them or get rid of one or the other. Very common problems with both flagtails and plecos.

get a variaty of food my plecs suck on squid and white bait as well as veggies
and allgie waffers
