Fei Fung sucking on Bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fei feng are notorious for sucking the slime off of other fish. Not all are prone to this characteristic, but yours appears to be. Move it or risk losing the bichir.

What is a Fei Fung?
Fei feng = Semaprochilodus spp. (taeniurus or insignis). These "kissing" characins are thought to bring good fortune by superstitious Chinese (I'm not one of them), hence the name fei feng, which means charming or flying phoenix.

I've had four 5" fei feng kill a 14" black arowana in less than a day by sucking its slime off. If you see it happening, stop it quickly or you'll lose a fish. The slime layer is a fish's primary defense system against infection and parasites.

Fei fung in the bucket now.. endli looks fine.. so I think I am ok.

Thanks guys.
