In the Water with Monsterfish
:D:Heres the scenario. I have about 14 baby pbass (2 Inches)in a 135 tank they are only two inches right now. they are the only thing in there at this time. Eventually I will move some to my 240. This morning I noticed that one of the bass is getting picked on by the rest and lost his dark stripe and ocels. So the question is should I throw a couple of dither fish in the tank. I understand the alpha male theory and all of that but at two inches what do you guys think? Help a bradda out.

dithers are a good idea with that many Pbass IMO. You didn't say what type of Pbass these are and I realize that at 2" they look tiny but in another year they are going to tax the capacity of that 240 unless your planning on thinning the herd so to speak through sales or trade.

2 things in my opinion.

Pull it for a couple weeks and try again.. Or let nature take it's course and see if it lives.. at that size it is highly likely that if you leave it , it will not survive.. IN my opinion.

i had to pull one of mine recently.. he wasnt able to get any food even when i tried to target feed him. normally i would just let nature take its course but with out food they just get weaker and weaker and smaller and smaller. so i have him in a second tank and i am feeding him double the amount as the others along with a soon to be tank mate mrs. pike cichlid, they just both now need to get some size. i was suprised that it wasnt that easy to get him eating again.

Maybe you can also set up some additional hiding spots. With such a large amount of pbass, they kind of serve as dithers themselves - as all the focus is not on just one.

theyre all picking on one guy?
he must be like a nerd or something...
i'd seperate him and feed him abit more han the others.
or add a few dithers.

ROTHGLMAO!:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:! NERDSSSSSS ! Does he have a pencil protector?

Me personaly I think you should wait it out and move him to see if he can at least add on some weight. But my question is are you going to save him again if down the road they just alinate him again? in that case I would let nature take it's course.

I would try the dithers first. Then if that doesn't work and he really seems on his last leg, then move him. I would wait until you think you might even have a hard time keeping him alive when you do move him out. Chances are when you move him or he dies that they will get a new whipping boy.

More hiding places is also a good idea.

I've used silver dollars and severums. I think really any non bottom fish that isn't going to kill or eat them will work.
