He's so big compared to mine. Mine isn't as active netheir. It just walks around the bottom of the tank and rarely climb on the rocks. Reminds me of my Musks, I'll get pictures for you sooner or later.

i keep rocks temp as 85 degrees. and he walks around all the time now...when it was 75ish he would just chill and wouldnt move as much...

all those plants will be history as the decor of the tank. Enjoy it while you can, then give it a bare botom with some stones and peices of bogwood.

Be sure, with alligator snappers to have a level of water where it does not have to swimm for air.

Good luck

for my alligator snapping turtle i keep the water at around 78-82. i got him when he was the size of a 50 cent piece back in may of 2000. now 7.5 yrs later he is 18 inches in shell length. he grew 4 inches the first yr, 4 inches the second and 3rd yrs, and since then has slowed down. so in about 3 yrs you will need to get a bigger/wider tank since a 55 is only 12 inches wide. i would suggest getting a stock tank like i have done. mine is a 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank. 5.5 foot diameter, and about 3 feet deep. takes a 800 watt titanium heater to keep the water in my temp range.
