Hi all with the need to replace my home made sump because of a Reoccurring leak I got to shopping around. ? bad for my budget but good for my fishes ?. As I tend to be mr overkill. But it always ends up with less maintenance for me. Anyway I came across this new to me automatic mechanical filtration. Auto felt roller. Anyone have any thoughts opinions experience good or bad to offer?

Cool concept...its ok ...I tried it and ended removing because of smell from the dirty side of roller. Just ended up throwing in polyfill and replacing weekly

I was cleaning my filters yesterday and thought, I wonder if you could make an automatic cleaning filter by
Use a solenoid to cut off the flow of tank water
Piston in the filter squashes a bunch of filter sponges a couple times, this should squeeze most of the muck out into the water
Flush the mucky water down a drain.

They have those already in the form of canister pond filters . They have paddles that can ring out sponges without opening the filter in back flush mode. I am using the oase green reset 40 as my mechanical pre filter before water hits sump
