 Hi again. Sorry to be a pain, but I want to have the best for my fishies and would rather ask too many questions, then make a mistake and have fish that aren't happy.

I have 3 female bettas living happily together in a 5 gallon tank. I have always intended to get them something bigger. Today, their filter has started to act funny, and the little bio wheel doesn't want to spin around like it should. Since this is a 5 gallon hex from Walmart, I can't just run out and get a new filter system for it as it won't work properly and won't fit in the hood. :nilly:

Can I add these 3 gals in a tank with neon, berry and glo tetras? There are danios in there as well. Would they be okay with rummy nose? I want to switch them tonight if I can as I don't want them in a tank without a filter. I could add them to the angel fish tank, but I don't think they will be compatible with them. My livebearer tank is out of the question, as I feel they would be too crowded in there. The only other tank I have is a fry tank which currently has fry in it. All the other tanks have something in them, and I don't want to overcrowd the tanks.

Also, can the 2 snails live in a tank with a pleco and cory fishies? Or would they be better of in the guppy fry tank with the 3 otocinc things. I don't imagine the babies create enough algae to keep the 3 otos and 2 snails going. I could keep them with just a bubbler and no filter I guess. But how would the algae be created if there are no fish in there? <<feeling really dumb here>>

Just maintenance your filter.....Unplug it and take it a part to clean....Once you get all the gunk out of the mag drive, and off of the wheel...(rinse with tank water ONLY) It should be just fine....Should take 5 min's or so...Good luck and feel free to ask as many question as you can think of...

Duh...I never thought about that. I will try and take it apart and clean it. They need a partial water change, so I will use the old water to clean all the parts. Thanks. I wouldn't mind moving them into the bigger tank if they can. Do you think they would be happier there, rather then sharing 5 gallons just the 3 of them?

I moved the girls into the tank today. I placed them in a specimen container filled 1/3 with their water. I added water slowly until they were acclimated to the water in the new tank. Then I let them sit in the container before netting them and placing them in their new home. They looked around, found food and are living happily in there now. No one is bothering them, and they aren't bothering anyone. I moved some stuff around before putting them in to make it appear to be a new territory and gave them all a small feeding. They ate without a problem.
