One of my female blue genes will occasionally chase the male electric blue away but she never bites. They're both about the same size but the female does seem a bit fatter than him. They definitely haven't paired but I've also never seen the electric blue at a corner or the top of the tank. He(?) still swims freely around. I have no idea if the female is rejecting him or if he might even be a she. Are the chances of an EBJD being female likely?

very hard to tell...Couple of thoughts to ponder the ebjd will start to wag and shake his head when he likes a suitable mate.

So will female if the female dominates your blue which can happen no pairing WILL Happen the male has to show the domiance

You can beef up your ebjd

The other female you sent me seems to be doing fine with the larger EBJD. This smaller male is confusing me though. He wags his head and so does the female. I assume they're both interested but whenever she swims over, he just runs. Any particular foods that might really beef them up? I've been feeding Cichlid Gold and NLS 3mm Large Fish Formula.

Yeah, thats why Im not 100% sure about mine too. Just put them together today, so far so good. But they are the same size which is good (Male EBJ is super aggressive, killed a female BG a bit smaller than him). Only time will tell.

Ive seen a successful pair where the EBJ was an inch smaller than the female, they had many frys together. Just like all aggression varies, you just gotta be lucky to have the perfect balance. My EBJ is smaller but he's a killer, and the BG has shown aggression towards my Flowerhorns before I put her with the EBJ. Rollin the Dice

How big was your smaller EBJD when the two of them breeded?

The second sentence is the key here: Just put them together today, so far so good. And the second key is in the second paragraph: Ive seen a successful pair

I just completely overlooked that. I saw successful and everything just flew out the window. :nilly: But regardless, do you remember the size of the two?

It can happen for sure..If your male can dominate or hang with the female sure there pair off. I've owned a 10 inch female regular jack the bred with a 8 inch male its possible.

Just give them time Its sounds like your right on track. I feed my guys not much beef heart. I say one a month ..sparingly.. and variety is a good key ..krill once in a while..switch it up
