I removed the free-swimming BGJD fry last night. My male totally lost it and beat the snot out of my female. She's not bleeding, but she's missing some scales around her face and she's obviously quite stressed. I've divided the tank so she can have some peace. I'm giving her freeze-dried blackworms in addition to her usual diet.

Anything else I can do for her or will the separation be enough to help her heal?

I had the same thing happen to my BGJD Female. All I did was seperate them till they healed and now there together again. Just time apart should help her heal. As long as the wounds arent to severe.

you may want to try keeping the lighting to a minimum, this will further reduce stress

Thank you.

There's no "meat" showing, just missing scales. I'm hoping I got to her in time to help her.

Thank you. I hadn't thought about that. Her side has a separate light, so I'll use that to help her stay relaxed.

How about adding some aquarium salt? About 3 g/L will help her and won't do the male any harm.

Sorry to hear that. She should be fine - JDs are relatively hardy.

I've had similar situations before with various pairs. If you leave a few fry behind, the adults would be less likely to flip.

Thanks:)

Here's where it gets scary: This is a huge spawn! I think I pulled around 100. There are around 50-75 fry still in the tank with Mom and Dad.

The spawn was so big, Mom and Dad "split up custody". Each had their own very large swarm.

I've seen large spawns from JD's before, but nothing like this.
