Hi all,

I would like to ask your opinions on whether a female festae (red terror) would live with a polleni, or is this simply too much to ask?

I currently have a 90 gallon tank with what I think is a male polleni and 2 bristlenose plecs. Now I love my polleni, its got to that stage where its almost big enough to 'fill' the tank and has a bit of an attitude (flares up and chases fingers). Recently though I've fancied a chance, being drawn to female festae's in particular.

I am attracted to the festae's colour primarily and think it would stand out well in my tank, create a real show fish.

I previous thought of doing a straight swap, polleni for festae, however I am quite attached to the polleni, so thought I would ask your opinions on the possibility of the two fish coexisting.

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any comments you may have.

Get another tank! I think they will fight...you might get away with it but IMO one of them would end up being killed...

I agree this may end badly.
My Festae female will not mix with any other cichlid, she shares a 6 footer with 6 Silver Dollars and this works well. She does get to chase them but doesn't do damage.

Maybe it'll work for you, the Festae being smaller than the Polleni, but long term I'd be concerned.

cheers

Your answer is in your own post. ;) If the polleni is already almost big enough to fill the tank and he's aggressive to the point he chases you then adding another big cichlid is just a really bad idea. :)

Yeah, I suppose I was asking too much really. Sometimes you don't truely appreciate what you already have. I'd much rather play it safe. I have got a 260 litre tank spare, though I think a female festae in that would be pushing it.

what are the dimensions of that tank? If my google search was correct that translates to about 70 us gallons. If the tank dimensions are right then a female festae may work in there. :)

tell you what though, if you could manage a larger tank, like say a 125, a female festae and polleni would look awefully nice together, especially with black sand :)

Unfortunately its a bow front tank, meaning only 13" at the outer edges which I think would be pushing it for a female fastea. I'm already at my tank limit, so even though I wholeheartedly agree, that a polleni and fastea would look amazing together, it will have to remain a dream.
