I have two definite female festae's. Both are wild and both have completly black dorsal fins. But that is where the similarities stop, one is yellow with black bars and no blue spangling the other is orange with much lighter vertical bars(most of the time) and some light blue on the tail.. Just wondering if these are from different areas or something

they will varie not all female festae look the same. some light up the room and some will stay drab. some will loose all speckling on all fins and some will keep the speckling. some turn more yellow and some turn more fire red. they just differ. no more explanation then that i can give.

I have two females and one is a stunner and showboater and the other is a hider and more drab looking. When they puff up agains one another both fishes colors run wild though!!

If two females are together, one takes the sub-dominant colors. Its a possibility.

I agree, IME if two or more females are in the same tank, the most dominant one will color up the most.

I think they both look really good but totally different. The dominant one is more orange like balton777 photo, while the other one is more yellow like the picture in rockbass6 photos

I have had festae for a few years now, and my last pair the female was more yellow like rockbass6. I was wondering if these are from different geographic locations. Aquamojo references having a female festae that was from brazil i think and it had amazing colors. Just wondering

I have NO clue about the geographic locations.

I can tell you tho that the closer the females get to the male in distance the more Orange they become the further away the male gets the more Yellow they become ..........also noticed the closer the male gets to the females the more Yellow his body turns and the further away he gets his his body color turns Maroon Red.

Thats true, but that is a picture of my female when she was younger she has a red face now, with yellow body, still transferrring in color as we speak, she just coming up on a year old now. I will be doing an update on the fish soon.
