what are female festae's like to keep? can the be kept with an oscar, severum, black ghost knife, sliver dollars and clown loaches?

It may be possible in a large enough tank but I wouldn't try it . The festae is too agressive for the others.

you could try...the oscar and severum wouldn't really pose much of a threat so the female festae would be able to be the dominant fish without much competition. Just keep a close eye and be prepared to do some rearranging if things start to go bad.

Your tank is approx. 140 gallons. What are the dimensions of the tank?

It's all about the tank size buddy . I have had trouble with mixing Oscars because they try to dominate but can't really fight so they end up getting turned on and hurt . Had this happen twice but luckily stopped it before it got too serious

my current tank is 6foot x 24 x 18

hopefully upgrading soon to 8x2x2

my oscar is about 2.5 years old and pretty happy being the king of the tank. I starting to think that is would be to much of a risk getting one, even when i do upgrade.....beautiful fish though!

Some Festae are more aggressive than others. My first one was a real terror but my current one is more mellow. She goes thru phases though, every now and then she goes on a rampage but hasn't killed any of the other fish yet. She just chases everyone around for a couple of days and then goes back to normal again. With your tank size, it might be worth trying, Festae are awesome fish. Here's my 10" female.

there such nice fish, maybe once i get my new tank i'll get one and hope itd has a good temper. I'd really hate for anything to happen to my ghost knife...had him over 2 yrs and he is about 10 or 11 inches but wouldnt be very good at defending himself against an angry cichlid.
Whats the average size for an adult female festae?

been thinking alot today and the new tank isnt really affordable right now so the festae is back on the wish list right next to a jag. maybe this thiem next year i'll be in a better position to get a bigger tank, might have to get rid of my chocolate to free up some room in my tank...he's really shy and hides all the time so all he is really doing is adding to the bio load
