What is the Max. that you can keep in one enclosure? I can not find anything about the amount of females per enclosure other than if you have enough space... How much is enough space?

Its 72"x18"x20"

A single male, and how many females... I just cant find out...

You'd really want it taller, but in something that size I would think you could do several females, maybe 6? Only one male though...

I would think in a tank that large you can do a dozen females and a couple males as well. Just make sure that there is enough cover for the males to seperate themselves from each other if need be.

I use to keep and breed 1.3 green anoles in a 55 gallon aquarium. Just provide lots of cover with whatever size you go with so they can establish territories.

Do female anoles fight for space? I thought it was only the males, of course it has been over 20 years since I have kept them! LOL!!

So in a cage as large as the op's will a dozen females be a problem then?

I wouldn't want to put that many in that size tank. Maybe 6 or 7 females and 1 male. Even though they are thought of as cheap beginner lizards, anoles need a lot of space. People see them all piled up in a tank at the pet store and think that they can do the same at home. They do live in loose groups in the wild with males defending a large areas while females come and go from it. I think a large number in a tank that small would stress the animals.

OK got it, so is the dewlap the only obvious (read as easy) way to tell males from females.

Also is it really OK to mix the brown "bahama" anoles in with the green?

The males also are bigger then the females and sometimes have a bit of a raised crest on the back of their necks. They also have enlarged pores above the vent.

I guess you could mix them if you had a large enough enclosure but A. sagrei is much more aggressive then A. carolinensis.
