Love both of these fish, but only have a 55 currently available to stock up. Hence why I’m going the female route to keep size down. Would these 2 do well together in general, and if so is this tank size do-able? If not I already have easy acces to a female blue Texas, what would be another option? Thanks!

Honestly I would not do a green terror with at BT mainly do to the fact that BT are going to be far more aggressive. I've found from owning both a green terror and a green Texas that the Texas is far more aggressive. Honestly I don't think I would have more then 1 BT in a 55. If you would like something very similar to the green terror I would recommend getting an electric blue acara. They have a very similar body structure and temperament while staying around 6-7inches in most cases. You could atleast start with 4 of em and only keep a pair once they have decided to pair up along with some smaller dither fish such as Congo tetras or giant danios. Hope this helps and others will probably chime in with ideas as well given enough time.

Thanks for the info! Could I do a female GT in a 55? Or do they still get too big/not show any color. Also I’ve read up that what most LFS’s sell is not actually a true GT and they’re a bit smaller. I’m clueless when it comes to anything but Africans to be honest so I appreciate the help!

Well most lfs do sell true green terrors as far as I know and yeah a green terror would eventually get too big for a 55. Female generally get to be around 8-10 inches while males get to 10-14 inches. Very rarely but sometime you can find a green terror/acara cross which will retain the size of an acara while having the colors of a green terror. A single female green terror would eventually have to upgrade in tank size but it would take a couple years before that would be needed. Preferably you would want a 75 on up to house a single terror. Now if you see a terror being labeled as a gold saum or white saum it's just referring to the color of the band running across the dorsal and tail fins. And as for the coloration between a male and female it's just down to preferance. Do you like the blue iridescence on the side of the body or do you like the green with darker green stripping? I'll attach a pic of a male and female terror allong with an EBA. None of these pics are mine, they're just ones I found on Google images. Top is the EBA second is the female terror while bottom is male.

Personally I would love to see a terror/Texas cross but not sure if it's possible. I know Texas can be crossed with flowerhorns but not sure if FH's can cross with a green terror either. I've seen a few red terror/FH crosses tho but pretty certain that green terrors are not in the same family as red terrors are. Hopefully a admin will pop in here as some point. They always seem to know everything lol.

You got any other ideas for a replacement for green terrors or Texas? Acaras are about the only thing I could think of as a replacement for the green terror but I don't know if there is anything similar to a Texas in appearance that would stay small enough or mild enough for a 55.

I'm with you Acara are the only specie I can think of lol. As for the Texas Cichlid I can't think of anything.
