I have a young GT, who I'm guessing is female, because it is very non-agressive. Do you think I could have success having her in the same 55 gallon long tank as a geophagus? Let me know. I really want to buy a Geo..

My female is super aggressive, sometimes head banging the glass. She rushes larger fish when it strikes her fancy too. I wouldn't assume it is female because it seems non-aggressive. Give it time and it should come out.

As far as the question, I haven't kept earth eaters so I cannot answer.

I don't think it's a good idea, the GT will almost certainly be too aggressive in that size of tank. A Geophagus from the brasiliensis complex would be able to hold their own, but grow very large. The only species suitable for a tank that size would be the smaller species and they would be too mild mannered IMO.

i wouldnt judge a GT sex by its temperment..I have a male GT which is very nice with his tankmates....With this combination it can be done but you might wanna keep an eye on the situation and upgrade to a bigger tank....

From my experience with GT's they are VERY aggressive. Mine killed everything in the tank with it and even tried to attack anyone who got close to the tank. I recall reading that the male GT will have an orange edge to the tail and dorsal fins. Good luck.

my female gt was in love with my geo and my 12" geo was in love with her
very aggressive pair wouldn't let me male rivulatus near her the geo chased everything and anything that moved near her

but i hav jd's with my rivulatus

females tails have a thing orange line around it males have a larger orange line

my male gt is none aggressive

all gold saums of any quality should have the orange tips regardless of sex. i currently have 2 females, and both are pretty mellow but i wouldn't recommend putting them with geo unless you want tattered fins all the time.

Everyone says GT'S are so agressive. Mine is totally peaceful. I'm gonna try my luck.

How big is the GT? That will make a difference, and so will the type of geo you want. Are there other tank mates?

Would you put your son/daughter in a lions cage????

Not a good choice for a tankmate, let alone two in that small of a tank. Opt for a larger tank or go with a single specimen.
