Female GT just laid eggs!

Well, I woke up this morning to find that my 4inch female GT has laid eggs. I just added a 1inch male convict yesterday, so maybe he has something to do with it (I doubt it). Never had any of my cichlids lay eggs before, so this is pretty cool for me, even though they're probably not fertile.

Nah the only other cichlid in there is a 1in convict, which wasn't involved.

Nice! She'll probably get really grumpier now haha, but I always look at it as a sign of good health if she's laying!

Sexually mature female Cichlids often deposit eggs, even without the presence of a male counterpart.

Yeah, all the fish seem happy, if a little on edge with the GT's increased aggression. It's so cool watching the GT try and defend the eggs (there's only about 2/3 left) from all the other fish. The convict is a little **** stirrer though, constantly trying to get the eggs everytime the GT is distracted. So glad I got that little convict, he's so full of attitude. Do you reckon there's a chance the GT and convict could pair up in the future since the convict is a male? He's still small (1inch) but is already growing a nuchal hump.

Even if the two paired up, they could not produce viable fry. The Con would be unable to fertilize the eggs.

Oh ok. Well that's probably for the best, as finding somewhere to offload batch after batch of hybrid cichlids would be hard.
