Female HRP with hump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is quite normal for female cichlids that are dominant to sport a hump.
Check out this female haitiensus.

And then to refuse a less than dominant males advances is quite common.
A male unable to defend a brood as well as she can, will often not meet her standards.
My female red point females always chose males at least 1/3 larger.

Do you only have one pair?
What does HRP stand for?

Nice fish! She's an Amazon! She could still breed with him if there is enough competition going on in the tank. Also he should continue to grow longer than she does, so I expect he will catch up.

I think he has pretty much reached his max size as he is 2 years old at least. He’s quite small for a male.
She is about 1 year oldish.

I don’t think he has a chance to catch up haha

He is persistent though, he will try to keep the syns away and always flares and tries his hardest to impress her. I actually don’t want them to breed and have babies but it is fun to watch them
