Can someone help me out. Second time they try to spawn but her eggs will not drop...she goes thru motions and even looks for eggs...her tube is extended.

What's tank temp at? Any other fishes in the tank? I raise my temp up to 86...seems to get mine to eat more and spawn readily... not only that, eggs seem to hatch sooner. Mine doesn't seem to mind tankmates but a private tank might set the mood.

try feeding your jag bloodworms every second day for a week and do two water changes a week. That gets mine to drop her eggs. Also how old is this fish ?

This is exactly what I do or brine shrimp for food. I my my cycle of my female is 2 weeks so right before that I do a big water change and make sure its cooler water going in. So my tank for breeding is at 84 and with the cold water change drops to 73-74 the next day I see eggs.

Is 86F safe? I was just told from a friend at a LFS that her tank went up to 86F and it killed everything. I had my Jags breeding at 76F without any issues....every 4 weeks or so I'd get a new clutch.

When mine bred I was giving them Hikari Bio-gold, dried shrimp and krill, and I bred my own guppies on the side to satisfy their cravings for live fish, and also, believe it-or-not, a few dozen live crickets 1-2 times per week. They snatched those crickets off the surface like a Largemouth exploding from a bed of lily pads.

I also had mine breeding in an aggressive community tank shared w/ Jacks, convicts, FMs, FHs, Acaras, GTs, catfish, etc. They just kind of sectioned off one portion of the tank and as long as nothing came near the nest site, they stayed to themselves, surprisingly.

I can't believe it slipped my mind earlier, but what type of rocks do you have in the tank for her to lay? They are "cave-breeders" so the rocks texture and set-up is actually pretty important. I always used semi-smooth slate or granite slabs, bridged over a pair of "stackers" placed beneath opposite ends of the long bridge-piece. They will likely lay upside down, on the underside or the bridge-piece.

If smooth rocks don't work try rough or rocks with miniature pockets (about the size of a fish egg) and if rough rocks don't work, try smooth or medium grain, like sandstone. I had a friend who couldn't get his Jacks to breed , then he put a small elongated piece of OLD concrete (it must be old and soaked for a long time due to concrete's high PH of 10-12 or so....it drops with age), and she LOVED all the little indentations on the bottom-side of it and was breeding out of control in no time
