Female Jag problem

I got this girl from another member beginning of november.

The previous owner said she had several batches of eggs and fry before i got her with a small Male Jag (smaller than her)


When i introduced her to my current habitants (Oscar,JD,Loisellei) She lip locked and flared, But no injuries


Since then, there has been no aggression. The Oscar defends his side of the tank by simply chasing the others away. There is no fighting.

She has not eaten more than a few freeze dried krill once or twice since Nov 3rd. She looks healthy. She's not beat up, her fins arent torn, and her eyes are clear. But she always seems to hang out in one corner near the surface.

She looks like she has a full stomach so i'm thinking she is full of eggs.

Could her shyness and not eating be because she is full of eggs

I have no idea. Any thoughts. Experience with females that produce and their behavior.

I know it takes some fish a while to adjust and sometimes they wont eat, but its coming up on 3 weeks now

the jag could be holding if she is she will fatten up and will show a vent tube shortly after. My Female does not have a male companion and laid eggs a couple weeks ago. My female ate as usual but all fish are different. Try some live blackworms my jag loves them. Anyway keep an eye on her and see if her breeding tube comes out in a couple of days.

Jags lay their eggs on a rock so she isn't holding..... I would just keep offering food and see if she will start eating.

Do you have some where she can hide? Sometimes a hiding place where she can feel safe will get them out and eating.

not necessarily mine like I said does not have a mate she cleared a spot on the bottom of the tank to lay the eggs but was dropping them all over the tank. She could be holding. I do agree to keep offering food.

I'm sorry but they do not hold eggs in thier mouths, I will agree that if they don't have a flat rock that she might lay them in the gravel.

I have a pair that spawns every 6 or 7 weeks so.

I know they are not mouth breeders where did that come from? I was just saying IMO if the Jag is fattning up and not eating its probabally holding but then again it may not be. I also agree having some hiding spots for her may make her more confortable.

This is what made me think you were saying that she is a mouth brooder.

I will have to say that my female is getting verry fat and will lay any day now. I'll try and get a pic and post it.

She had a few pellets the other day. Before Thanksgiving.

I didnt feed my fish for 4 days, and last night i fed them.
They all ate except her. I fed the others beefheart to shut them up while i put pellets in for her. (she seemed more accepting of pellets than chunks of beefheart before)

She didnt eat anything though. She is not skitish really. She is shy, but she wont freak out when i come to the glass, she slowly comes up to check me out, but if the other fish come over, she leaves.

Her belly looks full. AS if she ate a lot of food, but since i know she didnt, i am assuming she is full of eggs.

I'm not sure what to do. I guess i'll keep offering food.

There is a big log in the tank, but the JD has that. There is a driftwood in one corner that she hangs out by. But she doesnt hide behind that much. Mostly she hangs out near the surface.

Last night she was laying on the gravel. I came over to look at her and she backed up and hid behind a plant.

There are places for her to hide behind. There arent caves for her to go in though

She looks good. Her fins are good, scales are good, eyes are clear. I guess she just is taking a really long time to adjust. ??

I have a flat piece of slate in the garage that was in my tank before.

Should i put it in the corner that she likes to hang out in?

Maybe she just isnt finding a spot to lay them that she likes?

The first picture is her in my tank. The Lois seems to watch over her like she is his.
He doesnt protect her (thats not what i mean) But he seems to "herd" her around.
