Hello everybody!!! Been about 6 months since I posted anything meaningful on our site. Good to be back. Missed some of my friends here!! Lots of new "faces" and names so I hope to get to know some of you as well.

Now here's the deal...I have had my female JD in my 90 gallon for a couple years now. She'shares the tank with my male GT "Deuce" and he's s tuf, but she'll whip him about once every week or two. He gets all banged up, loses a few scales, then reclaims the top spot. They go through this "cycle" every two weeks almost to the hour it seems. Anyway the GT is the one I'd prefer to be Alpha and I think I can get a little more size outta him if I eliminate the stress factor (JD). What do you think?

Should I sell/Trade her?

Here's the 90 gallon set up:

Female JD 7-7 1/2"
Male GT 8+"
Male Firemouth 5"
2 Bushy nosed Plecos
2 Clown loaches
2 YOYO Loaches
I also am running 2 Aqua Clear 110's for filtration, with w/c every week or two. I Have tested the water several times over the first few months with this stiocking to determine how often I need to w/c.

Thanks everybody..GOOD to be back! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

depends on how bad you like your JD! lol or perhaps buy a new tank and stock it with your female jd and get some new fish! just an idea lol id like to see your female jd..

i dont know...maybe he will get bigger without her...but c'mon you have had that JD for how long? couple of years maybe? almost like a part of the family you know....so I dont know but sounds to me like they have an interesting relationship....i would just keep them together....love hate relationship....

She is nice. Just get her a new tank and put the firemouth in with her. Who knows? Maybe there will be some nice hybrids.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in Hybridization. I don't have room for another tank right now either (have 4 at the moment). If i remove her, she'll be replaced with my female Salvini, who'll be more than capable of holding her own with the FM but probably won't challenge the GT. So...I thought he'd benefit from being the alpha, and not constantly battling for supremacy

make sense?

SHE'S PRETTY FAT.
i wish mine liked to eat.
he's got beef in the tank though lol.
eats probably once every 2 days.

Earthworms my friend....Tons of protein. If you want them big, feed them like you would feed a bodybuilder...High protein. BUT make sure you serve a little veggie here and there too so they don't get digestive probs. I've heard of cichlids getting bound up from too much protein in their diet.

She's doing very well in there, but she eats a variety of pellet food during the winter (Can't grab worms when the ground is frozen in western/upstate NY) I also use the "red worms/trout and pan fish worms" from Wal Mart.
