Tank: Eclipse five gallon corner.
Fish: One pair of Gardneri Killifish. Male 2", Female 1.5"
Setup: Freshwater, planted
Recent activity: -80% weekly water change, on tuesday (three days ago)
-Siphon off the bottom/ cyanobacteria (was getting an outbreak)
-Remove floss filter w/carbon
-Began dosing with erythfomycin, 100mg per day, recommended dosage.
Comments: This was the first water change I did without having carbon in the filter, the biowheel has been out sinse the tank was set up last december, water change with water that has been circulating in an empty 20 gallon with a HOB filter (no cartridge) and airstone for the past couple weeks.
The female is the only fish affected, mostly heavy breathing while lying in any position on the bottom, with occasional bursts of eratic "twirling" swimming lasting about 25 seconds, hitting anything in the tank: side walls, rock, plants.
The male and "baby," the only survivor-I noticed him after cleaning/siphoning the tank- are fine, eating fine. The female was fine this morning, eating ok.
They are fed a staple of "petsmart brand" flake (hmmm... been a while since I have been to petsmart... almost a year... hate that place... could old food be the problem?) with around twice weekly feedings of frozen daphnia and bloodworms.
Unfortunately, I am leaving tomorrow morning for nationals in Oklahoma, and will be gone for ten days.
Will post pictures and/or video soon.
Any ideas?
-Zac As always, please pardon my spelling.
