My female A. Sp. Red iletas has a nuchal that is larger most male fish her size.was wondering if anyone knew if this is normal as there is little to no info on these fish.

yeh its down to genetics, some females do get nuchals, ive not seen one this big before tho! u got a stunner there! defo a keeper

Females usually only develop a knochal hump during spawning or egg laying. My guess is she's about to lay eggs. Its hard to tell in midas because there hump constantly gets big and then small again. Where in pure red devils the hump is rarely even present. Its very easy for me to spot a mix of the 2 when you have a fish with thick lips and a large hump. A midas has a flatter face and is much bulkier where a RD is more slender and has an elongated mouth with thick lips. Either way congrats on a very nice female specimen.
no male red devil/midas..but there is 2 oscars and 2 black belts and one male N.venustus... so could be other males...Eugene;2250753; said:
Well something has got her interested thats for sure. I've kept some female that their vent tube began to come out yet never laid eggs. But she is for sure wanting to spawn. Also anythings possible, I've had Salvini/Convict spawn before.
