I purchased a female rope fish about a month ago and she had not eaten since i got her. i knew it is a risk you take with polys but hoped it wouldnt happen to me. well she died today, my dad was home before she went and even put her in a little breeder net with a feeder or two just trying to get her to eat but to no avail. im not sure if she was out competed for food by the other larger male rope or just too slow to get the feeders or just on a hunger strike. i saw her mouth at a feeder or two once but never saw a successful hunt. anyway i wasnt too attached but it is always sad to lose a fish, especially when it is one of your favorite types. just thought i would let u guys know.

sorry for ur loss =(

Yeah it sucks to loose fish you like.

Try feeding them chopped up night crawlers or market shrimp/prawn in the future. I got a female rope a week or so ago and she was fairly thin, but now she is plump :)

thanks everyone

she just wasnt interested in anything really. thanks tho. ill have to start feeding my male some shrimp again.

I wonder if she had internal parasites. It's very unusual for ropes to not take shrimp and earthworms, it's their favs.

The ropes I had last year (lost them to an annoying climbing perch :irked: ), I had them on sinking pellets (hikari gold sinking) and they ate okay, but were never had as nice of a form as when I had them on shrimp.

Best of luck with your future ropes cnoel!
