How long until they spawn for the first time?

Does their growth stop if there is no male?

What is a good size to wait for until getting a male?

as with most fish, the longer she is without a male, the bigger she will get. For now, she is devoting all resources to growing and developing. As soon as you add a male, she will devote resources to start maturing sexually and her growth will slow down dramatically

I've only heard of saum's growth stopping. What other cichlids do that?

like i said, lot's of fish do that. Most livebeareres, convicts, firemouths, jaguars, other parachromis, doviis, etc, etc...

I would say this is common in most freshwater fish...

Smaller females will lay less eggs... besides that most people feel breeding young females is inconsequencial. I personally feel that letting them grow up a bit improves the quality of the offspring.

Green Terrors can spawn starting between 6~9 months old... which would be around 3~4"... some a bit later/larger...

my female Gold Saum started laying eggs around 3 inches

i want my girl to get bigger before I let her spawn. She is currently around 4 inches or so.
