OKAYY
So fenbendazole works great for cats and dogs, has been used to treat giardia where metronidazole won't work\ (thought it might eliminate hexaminta)
my plan was to work out a good deparisitizing program for fish particularly altums ( so they wouldn't have to be bubble babies)
my fish were apppearing unthrifty, and had stopped spawning
an angel breeder i know would feed a recipe with fenbendazole in it and had great results
Okay so i did all the reading
got out the fish books calculated dosages.... bottom line
Mistake big big mistake
Lost my most valuable angel breeding stock !/2 black superviels, 80% orange koi etc
as well as 4 ebjd's that i was embarking on a breeding project with
oh and my jardini
his anus was protruding maybe huge worm load?
almost bumped off my rottkiel breeding pair
only way i saved them was isolation tanks amquel higher temps 84 F and salt 1 tbs/gallon
Ok so now the mourning is over
on the bright side i have a lower electric bill
my fish now have lots of space
so i get to rearrange stuff and really plan this time
actually, i think i will try some controlled experiments in the future
i'm still thinking it's a useful drug, dosing may be the issue,
will probly sterilize some 10's and use some angel culls
keep a record etc
So many variables though
naturally present pathogens, water quality etc
oh well a good useful project to keep me out of trouble
to cycle the tanks prior to adding fish will use biospira, that's great stuff
i'm wondering if it disrupted the slime coat and made the fish susceptable to disease (SInce the whole tank next to the goldfish croaked and omg they were georgeous german blue superviel pearlscales)i loved them
also appears to have a neurotoxic effect as well as irritating to the gills
a couple of "floaters" are still alive and seem to be regaining function though
of course water testing should also be a priority,
and this is really making me feel bad
the uaru are actually clustering around the sick members
ah well otc doesn't mean safe
so poor experimental design,
what i should have done is dose a few culls in controlled conditions not go nuts and do all my tanks
so will be doing some research on both the chemisty and effects on fish
lots and lots of reading to do first,
