Hey guys. ive had this Fen for a couple months now and had recently purchased another. within two weeks they clears the sand away from behind a rock and laid eggs. It surprised me because one of them is 10" and the other is around 5".

well here are the pictures of the 10"er i think he is male but not really sure. also hows his/her coloration compared to others youve seen? i havent seen so many of these. ( not saying they are rare )

I am sure it is a male. It is very unlikely that a large female will even give a smaller male a second look, let alone spawn with him. So my guess, your 10" is a male. A very beautiful male at that. I am ordering a few of them from Gage @ cich conn here real soon.

yea thats who i got the big male from. Gage is a hell of a guy and went through some trouble picking me out this guy and getting him to me.

Looks like a great looking male. When they look that good who cares.

i thought it was male cuz most females have a more "streamlined" body. from my experience

Since we are talking Fenestratus...

How is your fish in terms of getting along in a community tank setting? I recently added a 5" loisellei which is about an inch bigger than my fen and he goes toe to toe with him. Of course its only flaring out but I'm surprised how bold the little Fene is. The dominating fen also chases the other fen quite a bit. In the long run I will only be keeping the one to move into my new 210g, but I am surprised how these are not seen more out in the market, they are cool fish!

since they laid eggs hes been super aggressive. i think im actually going to get rid of the small female. when shes not in the picture hes been real mellow. doesnt really bother anyone really. like him alot.
