i'm going to be setting up a 75 gallon tank sometime soon and i want to know if i could keep a female festae with a fire eel. i'd like to hear all of your opinions, but lets stay away from the arguments.
I think it will work, years back I kept a fire eel with oscars. There is a member here on MFK that keeps one with Jack Dempseys and red devils but in both cases the eel is at good size,
Couple things with fire eels, they are escape artist so your tank top need be very well sealed. They also will outgrow a 75g. the one in the pic below is well over 30 inches
i bought a 16 inch fire eel today and mine is in with bichirs, salvini, blue acara, etc so i'll keep you updated.i've owned a fire eel before but he was about 8 inches or so.i'd definately get a bigger fire eel.they can stand up for theirself better than a small one and they dont seem as finicky with food.
I had ,my 18"er with severums, oscars, arowanas, and my male severum was a phyco, i also had him with a GT and Midas/RD will my severum took them out , so unless he is over 12" and has LOTS of hidding spots and a future tank over 100gals then i say go for it!!
It will work just get the eel big ane the rt small and keep a few dithers in there i think they will do fine in a 75 gal the eels grow slow especialy if get 1 that is already halfway grown it will be along time befor they out grow a 75.
