Would a female Festae work with a Crenicichla Red Tabajos in a 125 gallon tank? I currently have 2 Pssiticus and 2 Urau Fernandez and I know they are rare and all but I'm kind of tired of there skiddish nature. I want something with my pike that likes to stay front and center. I never see any of my fish now because they are always hiding. I've gone through this before but i've always changed my mind. I think i'd like a change for this tank. If not the Festae what would you guys suggest???

Depends, are you puttin in a male or a female festae? Are they both gonna be adults? If you grow them up together you would have better chances, but either way, in a tank that size, you might have to move one of them once they get full grown.

I kept my 4 parrots, 2 chocolates, 1 festivum, 3 Crenicichla sp. 'cobra' and 3 Crenicichla sp. 'xingu II' with my female festae in a 125 with little problems. Ironically the parrots were the ones who were pushin fish around the tank, not the festae or pikes. There was A LOT of driftwood though, so that helped diffuse aggression. Plus the tank was dark, so there was less 'stress' on the fish. I say go for it bro!! :D Both are awesome fish!

I just read your full post, haha. Caquetaia myersi, Caquetaia spectabile, Caquetaia kraussi would ALL be awesome for a tank. Caquetaia myersi is my fav. though, and the hardest to get, so if you can find some, get them!! ;) They are very bold, almost like oscars, front and center all the time. Could go with Petenia splenda too, they are large and laid back, not shy either.

I have Krobia sp. 'xingu orange spot' in with my Hoplarchus psittacus, and they are totally active, first ones to come and get food, which makes the parrots less skittish. They are a dwarf though, only gettin about 5"...but they are really robust, so if you got some larger ones, say 3 to 4" already, or grow them out larger, they should be aight! ;)

Thanks guys! I can't believe it but this is like the 3rd time I've contemplated getting rid of my Pssiticus and Urau. They are really nice looking fish but the tank just bores me. The only fish I'm the least bit interested in is the Pike. The rest just hid behind driftwood or they are banging themselves up trying to flee when i come into the room. I keep hearing that when a Pssiticus gets around 8 inches they start to become more out going. Mines around that mark now so maybe he would change. The Urau have always been way to skiddish for my taste.

Yeah, when my parrots hit 8.5" they were really out going, pushing the pikes around and everything. Get some good sized tetras, like blue flame back in there, they help to break up the tension...;). The parrots I have now are only 5" for some of them, but they are in a small tank...so that must help a little. Don't get rid of them though, cuz from what I remember, you have a true Brazilian psittacus right? They are MUCH harder to get. Don't import that strain any more to give you an idea...;)

I might just end up giving up the Urau and getting something to help bring the pssittacus out more. I was thinking of a couple Severums or something along those lines. Hey peanut, what Temp do you keep your Pssittacus at? I have this tank at 84 and always worry that its going to end up being a bad thing for the Pike. I tried to take the Temp back about a year ago and the Urau and Pssittacus got Ick so I've kept it at 84 since.

I always keep my tanks at least 82 degrees. Haven't ever had a problem with ich for the parrots, thats odd that they got it. I've kept my parrots and pikes in 84 degrees as well, although I do feel more comfortable at 82. As long as you keep the oxygen well dissolved in the water everything should be aight. Anything above 82 degrees increased aeriation is very helpful as it gets significantly harder for the fish to pull the oxygen out of the water efficiently because there is less of it in the water. Seriously recommend Caquetaia...aquabid, and rapps have some right now actually!! So go for it!! Aquabid has a 5" Caquetaia kraussi, very beautiful fish with unique colors.

BTW, my female festae was really skiddish in comparisson to my parrots, perhaps with more size she would have been less skiddish.

What type of Uaru do you have? Your not talkin about gettin rid of your ferdz are you?

Yeah, I'm just not that into them. I mean i could change my mind again but I'm tired of the whole skiddish tank thing.
