I just got my first umbee's and festae. I got 4 umbee's between 1.5 to 2 inches and 5 festae at about 1 to 1.5 inches all growing out in a 90 until i set up two bigger tanks for them. My question is whats the best diet to start off with these little guys. Its the first time i raise them and i dont want to feed them something that can potential give them bloat or anything else that could be harmful to them. Im already an owner of a pair of dovii that are doing great. They were very easy to raise. Im just wondering if these two species are any different. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sarkis, got my juvie festae a few months ago and I've been feeding them a mixture of different foods...Frozen brine shrimp, live brine shrimp, Hikari gold, Hikari bio excel and NLS cichlid growth. Have had no health probs with them and all have been growing nicley.

Just give them a good variety of food so they can thrive on. Just give them what you feed your dovii pair and soon you will have some monsters on your hands.

Thanks for the info. I am going to be trying to get them used to a bunch of different sorts of diets so they arent picky eaters.

I got some small festaes.....feeding them Hikari Cichlid gold+ and bloodworms.

Juvie festae and umbee can live in the same tank? Im thinking about growing 4 or 5 of each out in a 150g. How are yours doing in that 90?

i rotate between bloodworms, krill and anything from Kens. i went alittle nutty ordering from him once and have like 4 diffrent products still. i have 3 festae

They sure can, mine are doing great and are very happy. They are obviously going to have to be moved to bigger tanks soon enough but you can always grow out baby cichlids together.

Thanks for the reply. I find the more you have as a variety the better. The best of luck with yours.
