I have had this pair of festae for about 3 years, and they consistently show signs of spawning but never actually produce.:irked: I recently removed all of my other fish and now they are alone in a 125 male is about 12inches female is about 10. Now they do not show any interest in one another at ALL!! water is perfect 2-3 times per week water changes, temp is now 79 ph neutral, but i have tried everything to much hotter water to slowly warming up cool water. i have tried ph adjustments. And i still have no luck. Is it possible this pair just does not like each other???:nilly:

sometimes they are just better at mating with each other with other fish in the tank with them....at the time when other tankmates were in the tank did you have a pot in the tank for them....also large water changes should trigger spawning habits...also you should try to feed them alot that way you can condition the pair

I kinda let them pair off from a group of 8, the initial top pair that formed got killed by a pair of Lenticulata after i moved. So this is the second group that formed. I was thinking about adding tankmates, i never used a pot but there are alot of caves and slate pieces. I have breed many other CA cichlids with this same set up. How large of a water change should i do? and how frequent? should i replace with cold water? I try to feed them, but since i removed other fish from the tank the festae wont eat at all!! They are driving me nuts!! I have had them almost 3 years and i really want them to start spawning.

yea thats what i figured my male is like 12inches and female is about 10. You don't think i could change the tank around and add new festae.. Im begging to get worried that this pair is not into one another.

If you really must have breeding you probably should start over. Personally I just love festae and their personality so I don't need them to breed in order to keep. Have you found them to be rather peaceful in that size tank?

yea they are REALLY peaceful they have never bothered anything that they live with. I probably should start over for breeding i just dont want to because i am attached to my fish since i have had them for almost 3 years and they are huge
