At what age do festae start showing color? I have 7 ranging from 2-4" and all look the same with no color. The tank has a white gravel substrate with dark background and dark deco so I thought they would be showing some sort of color by now? I will try and get a pic asap. The larger ones do have good pearling in their fins but that's about it.

Well at 4 inches I would think you should start seeing some a little color. What is there diet?

festae can be very changeable, depending on mood, hierarchy status and breeding readiness.
Here is a 5" female without a dominant male in the tank.

same female with a courting male in the tank.

Interesting,
I happened to kick the lights on a bit earlier this morning and they were all showing darker colors and the verticle stripes. Guess my substrate is making them stay washed out? Their diet consists of Hikari bio gold plus as their staple pellet, weekly they get a mix of brine shrimp, blood worms, cooked shrimp. May throw some other Hikari bio gold and staple in throughout the week as well. Normally fed 2-3 times a day depending on my work schedule.
