We always have Festae at the store, but I have never seen any that resemble the beautiful coloration on Festae owned by members of this forum. Currently we have two larger ones. The color is so bad that one looks like A BRown Terror, and one looks like a Grey Terror. Is this just bad genetics, diet, age?

They are probably Uros, false Red Terrors. They normaly look like a muddy brown color compaired to a "true" Red Terror or Festae. True Reds are normaly hard to find. 99 percent of the LFS get in Uros and pawn them off as Festae. If you want trues you need to find a private breeder or order them from a reliable source.

One of them definitely looks that way, and the other is greyish. They are probably both Uros. Thanks! Always good to learn.

I see your from Bloomington so if the "so called" Festaes were at World of fish they are Uros. Those pricks sold me four Uros labled as festaes last March and I returned them. They are probably the same ones. I informed them of their mistake which turned out to be a scam since I have been told that they still have them mismarked. The BBB has an open ongoing investigation with them on this matter. Go to Forest Lake Pets if you want some trues. Thats where I bought mine. Last I checked a few weeks back all they had left were 2-3 F0 males and one big male in a separate tank. Its about a 25 min drive from you. Let me know if they have any females in. I would like one to two more.

LOL, for everyones info, I work there. I didn't last March, but I may still be a prick. Anyway, South and Central American Cichlids are not our specialty, and many of the employees don't know/care about them.

you should be able to tell by looking at the tail spot wurm. If it covers alomst the whole tail it is a Uro. If it is only on the upper half then it's a festae. There are other methods too but this is by far the esiest and most obvious.
