Is it possible to have an all festae community setup in a 180 gallon tank? Lets say with 5-6 females and 1 male, maybe 2 males? What should the ratio be?

My buddy just tried it in a 180 and it didn't work out, they fought all the time. Maybe if you start them off really young. I mix my festae w/ other species, but males always pic on other males, same w/ females once they sexually mature. The good news is he got so mad, he gave me all his festae, LOL!

sweet deal, i guess either way they are going to fight regardless if they are the same species or not, i guess still worth a try

It doesn't work as soon as they are mature they will pair up and then the odd ones pay the price.

Its hard enough to keep angelfish from killing each other and they are very mild cichlids compared to festae. I guess with cichlids you need a large tank and have the fish grow up with each other. I never had luck with cichlid communities, so I keep large characin and cyprinids instead. They play nicer with each other......most of the time, LOL
