I have five 3/4 of an inch festae fry in a 10 gallon. They were support to be 2 inches when I ordered them, but oh well. I Have a few caves in there and they are all hiding. What could I put in there to get them to swim more? Tetras? Also I am just feeding them crushed flakes, but what would be the best for them to eat if I want them to grow fast? I will also do a water change every other day to get them to grow fast. I will post a progression thread later today

Dithers at that size may be a challenge, because you don't want something that will outpace your festae growth wise. IMO fesate need to be the dominant fish in a tank when they are growing out to avoid stressing them out. Cichlid wise I've kept mine with Texas, black belts, jags (hit or miss), Cubans, oscars, jack Dempseys. Basically a tough cichlid that can defend themself if necessary. Just make sure your festae is a little bit bigger than the cichlid you want to add. Mine enjoy competition for food from other ciclids, almost like they let other fish try out food first and then they go for it lol. Some ppl also use silver dollars. While they are small certain tetras could work. All that being said, you may want to wait until they get a little bit bigger, and until you move them to a larger tank. The ones I have are harder on each other than on other tankmates. Good luck with them, they are def some of my favorite cichlids :)

tetras will work, but then again its only a 10 gal. I suggest waiting a while like the post above mentioned. I fed mine brine shrimp and crushed omega flakes until they got big enough to eat bloodworms etc.

Yeah the tetras would be temporary just to get them swimming around. 2 hide together, but the others hide by themselves

if the tank were any bigger or if the fish we any bigger I would use giant danios. But tetras work for now.

some black skirt tetras always work. i have a bunch of them in with my breidohri juvies that are about 2.5 inches.

I wouldn't add dithers. They'll eventually warm up and stop being so shy. Anything you add will be nipped at and bullied. You'll pretty much just he adding punching bag fish.

I'm just worried they won't eat as much because they are always hiding. And won't they kill each other when they get older?

As long as they're eating and have clean water they will grow. 1/2 fish are super shy. They'll grow out of it.

I am totally against using dithers with psychos like that because they end up being torn up or dead.
