Alright there have been a lot of people getting Festae and posting Festae threads. Often asking about characteristics of different strains myself included. So post pics of your Festae with the collection point or collection points of the parents. If you don't know let's just leave those out for this thread:). Post any other info you have noticed in person about this species, color, shape and anything else you have personally notices about different collection points.

This will be an interesting thread.

The characteristics of festae change with the borders of countries. Red on one side of the border. Green on the other side...

Matt

just like the skin color of people change from different regions of a country. for example, in China, the further west you go, the more red the skin color of the people. has something to do with temperature, adaptation, evolution, amount of sun light etc.

Pics for examples?

Pics for examlpes? Of fish since this is a fish fourm and I wish people would stop comparing anything human to fish?

It doesn't have to be humans, but they are just as good an example as any. The point they are trying to convey is that members of the same species evolve and adapt differently to their respective environments, and in some cases those changes are aesthetic. I have no pics though, sorry.

Not my fish and I hope Mack doesn't mind me posting it here, but this is one of the "bluest" female festae I've seen:

Pretty sure the borders of countries (ambiguous things humans made up) have nothing to do with variants. ;)

Look at the geography and drainages to divide up the variants. Though 99.9% of people on here won't know where the ancestors of their fish were collected.

As you can see, there are MANY drainages in the areas of interest (festae come from the Pacific drainages in Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia).

Guys, the OP asked for pics of fish with known locality, so we can (hopefully) understand more about the phenotypic variations of this species.

I think the question of "what contributes to these variations" may be better addressed after we understand more about the variations.

What I'm saying is two fish from different drainages in Ecuador could look differently from each other, though they're both from Ecuador. Doesn't make sense to break them up by country, it's not going to help at all to understand phenotypic variations lumping them by country.
