a great question

LOTS of threads on this already.

Heres a link to all of them:

Also, FYI, with the new upated forum came a GREAT advanced search engine that enables you to search for the words you want in just the title of the thread. Thats all I did for this particular search.

They are by far the slowest growing fish i have had... I bought a group of 7 at 1" back in november i only have 1 left she is 4.25" so a little over 3" in 6 months... So they grow really slow...
I would suggest you feed them a mix of foods such as nls, bloodworms, krill...
Also do a 50% water change weekly
The bigger the tank the better..
As far ad coloration it depends on many things

one of the slowest I've ever owned.

less than half an inch per month for the fastest growing of the pack so far... the smallest ones barely grew at all. I would say you need to raise them for at least a year (since they are born) for them to become what you see in the pictures... so if you don't have patience try to get adults from the start (not easy or cheap at all).

I should also mention that they're being raised in the same environment as my Salvini (power-feeding, multiple large weekly water changes, virtually no nitrates, high temperatures (82-89) and the largest male salvini grew almost two inches in a month... so you can compare growth rates.

mines are growing slow. Only one of them has grown to 4 inches in the 3 and a half months that I have had them from 2.5 inches to 4
