festae growth rate

I have a female festae thats about 5.5" and a little over 2 years old. She has been in a 75 for about a year, before that a 33L. I read an article that said females have black on there dorsal and anal fins-males dont.
Is this the average growth rate and is the article correct? Also what is the typical adult size?

Its not a urophthalmum- I have one in the 75 with the festae

i've seen females around 9" TL
my female is a slowish grower too... she's been around 5.5" for more than 2 months and she eats like a pig!
my small male is slow too... hmmm maybe i'm doing something wrong...
 
I've got my female Festae from Rapps November '06 at 1.5" and she's now about 5.5" and I thought that was slow. Yours is an extremely slow grower.

Ewok, I don't know if your doing anything wrong...Festae are slow growers in general. Just feed them a healthy varied diet and do lots of water changes.
 
My males are growing pretty quick. The females however seem to grow about half as fast after hitting around the 2.5" mark. But 5.5" inches after 2 years seem awfully small. Mine is almost there and I wanna say I've had mine for maybe 9 months.
 
5.5" sounds extremely small. I would of thought that it would be near 8-9"? Perhaps is had some bad experiances in the 33? Eg stunting, bad water etc.

Thats the best thing to do.
 
I got her at petsmart so maybe just low quality. All the other cichlids that she grew up with are healthy and normal sized. Male red devil-8.5" male dempsey-7.25" and a blackbelt that I had to give up besause it grew so fast
I was going to get 2 from Jeff last time I ordered but I got 6 Thorichthys pasiones instead. I got them at about 1" 2 months ago and there about 2"-2.5" already.
