I currently have a 60g growout tank going that at the time houses 7 ca/sa cichlids. They are all pretty small still, ranging from 1.5"-3.5". I was planning to get a 150g until i can get to the 200g+ range, but i found a 180g today for $300 w/ stand. I'll be picking that up this weekend. But i wount be able to get the tank up for another month or two. Haha..Christmas hurts my pockets just like everybody else!!!

With that being said i just found 100% real "Festae" at a lfs. We dont get these around our parts EVER!! So of course i want to grab one, but they are already 4" and easily sexed. My question is would i be able to get away with putting the festae in with my other growers right now, for a month or two?? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to take advantage of the opportunity while its here. If it wont work my ears are wide open for suggestions and ideas. What should i do???

Festae is now 4 inch , How about the others fishes ? What size do you think it would be by the time you get your new tank ?

Now if you really want to get it as you mentioned that there hard to come by.. go get it quick before they run out :-). If a fish turns to be trouble just flush it down the toilet or get a divider :-), You may have to do more water changes as your tank is on the small side for several cichlids

Kill it first if you wanna flush it.

it is common sense.

I say it is ok to do that as long as you have lots of smaller hiding places for the grow outs to avoid the Festae. One Festae is safe because the smallers can avoid it. The festae would probably wont even care. I hope.

What are the other 7 fish ? Aggression may be an issue but nothings written in stone.
Festae grow @ about 1/2 per month in the 1st year so if it were me w/ 180 gal in hand- I'd go for it. 4" Festae females can be territorial - 4" Festae males are pretty docile - they get more aggressive with size. In my case/cases over the 6" mark and even then not so much towards fish of similiar size. My male never really became a terror til' after he successfully fertilized eggs.

No need to flush healthy fish - I'm sure there's plenty of people on this site that would take any unwanted new world cichlids.
