They're too funny:nilly: Thought I'd share

They're so mean even from such a small size... biting each other, the 5" Severums and the peacock eel lol

they start at 0:54

Lol I was just telling kmill how I got six F1's from Rapps the first time I ever got Festae. They were only a couple of inches but four were killed within a couple of months. They were very aggressive just like yours. GL with yours.

thanks  hope to get a pair half as beautiful as yours hehe

lol i know it is soooo funny watching them fight with each other at such a small size my juvies i was growing out did this from the time they his .5in haha they have such big attitudes but unfortunately the dominant one pulled a highlander and killed all the other ones (indirectly since so small he stressed them until they bloated and was alone by the time they reached over an inch)

Love and hate Sals...love em cause they can hold their own against some of the meanest cichlids out there - hate them when you put em with some non-aggressive cichlids as they become 6" terrors.

Love the RTs tho :D

I like your tank. It looks like you have a nice current flowing through it. My group of Festae were pretty civil with one another until they hit 4". Then the murder and mayhem began. I finally ended up with a male and female but the male decided that he wanted to be a bachelor. He went postal one day so I had to remove the female. Eventually I sold the male too. I may get Festae again some day. I really enjoyed their beauty and size, especially their breeding colors. Good luck with your Festae. Like Sarah said, they are one of the true cichlids worthy of the Highlander theme song.

Mine fight all day but I have a lot of caves for the smaller ones to hide... I really hope I don't wake up one day to a bunch of dead festae cuz it was really hard to find em.

The dominant male only bothers the severums and the sub-dominant male, he rarely attacks the other fish, but he's still small... I think they're awesome tho, lots of attitude and color

I started with 4 and am down to 1 before they were even large enough to divide. They hate their own species!

In what size tank did u grow em out?

Yeah I like the strong current because I don't like to see debris sitting on top of the sand... Did your females show any color at 4"? and how long did they take to reach that size?

My plan is to grow them until I can sex them and select a small group of maybe 4, then give away the rest. I have an empty 90 gal sitting here that I can use to separate the more aggressive fish.

Around 4" is when they started to color up very well. But I still had some mistakes sexing them visually until they started going into breeding dress. The dominant female killed all the other females and the dominant male killed all of the males. I bought them very small, maybe and inch. At the end of the year my male was a little over 6" and the female was around 5".
These are some old pictures of a few of them.
