Hey guys, how long can i keep 5 2'' festae in a 90g.I'm hopeing to get a pair eventually and move them to a 125g.Thanks.

Tough question, maybe a couple months, depends of the fish. The most dominant one will want to kill the others. Put lots of sight breaks and hiding places in there so the less dominant fish can hide. With a little luck maybe a female can survive long enough to from a pair. It's really hard to say how long.

yeah make sure there are TONS of hides, if you can i would move them to the 125g now, that would give you a better chance of a female surviving. i had a lot of tiny festae fry (like less than 1/2in when i first got them) and before they were even an inch i was down to 2 or 3 and by the time the largest was a little over an inch he had stressed the last two into dying (they would all gang up on the smallest fish and then once it had died, moved onto the next smallest), and this was in a 30inx12in 20g tank with caves and plants, they are really brutal to each other so its really depends on the fish, i would say as soon as you see them being overly aggressive or all ganging up on one fish, then either separate them with dividers, or put them in the 125

yep they really do want to kill each other!!!
I'm sure it is an inbuilt natural selection so only the tough survive.
in my 220gal they got to 2 inches then started killing each other.
I had 8 then in a month I had a pair......

I think theyll try and kill each other even if they were all in the 125.. My pair didnt pair up till one of the males was big enough to handle the female. I had to seperate mine in different tanks then reintroduce the male with a divider till the female decided he was ready. . If you keep a close eye on them you should get a pair but try and divide them if they become too aggressive. Thats just in my personal experiance..

Good Luck

Thanks for the advice guys.It seems like losses are inevitable,Id hate to end up with just one fish:)I'll have to think about this one.

I have six in a 125 and they've been in there for months without any casualties (besides dithers). The dominant male and female control the tank. They each have their own territories that are guarded aggressively. Keep a lot of hiding spots and you should be fine.
