Hi All, just picked up two Mayan or Festae about 5" from lfs, they'd been they're a while and as you can see are still stressed out with torn fins and so on. Attached the following pics, hoping they will develop there colors and so on with a little tlc. Need some help on the ID though, if they're Mayan or Festae Cichlid? Any opinions appreciated. Many Thanks.

mayan without a doubt.

not an expert opinion, but I'd lean towards Mayan . . . boy, do they need some TLC

yeah, Mayan, whether its male of female is hard to tell you b/c they look the same unless you vent them. feed it a great source of vitamin A! they get really pretty when their colors come out DAMN WHY DID I SELL MINE!!! :(

how do you tell the difference? mayan is more dull color? I thought thats how a red terror look prior to coloring up. and whats tlc?

I think jumping on the bandwagon and shouting what the person above you said does no help at all..

They're Mayan because of the spot by the tail, taking up both sides of the lateral line instead of just the top half, and the first set of bars does not form a y or a 4, like a true Festae would.

tlc = tender loving care, or that looks crappy

look at the bars, they are nothing likea festae's bars and the color, whats he, about 3.5-4 inches? if so he would def.start showing his festae colors by now
