Picked up this guy (or girl) yesterday a my lfs. They had a tank full of "red terrors". They are usually pretty accurate with there labeling there but I don't have any experience with festae and I know that the whole red terror moniker is sometimes applied to many species. Anyway what do you guys think. Festae or no Festae?

Definitely no festae. Doesn't even look like a Mayan.

I know.
I don't know where stores find these fish, and the lack of knowledge the average FISH STORE owner has is incredible. How can a 15 year old on the Internet know 10000x more than a business owner that relies on the hobby as their living?

It's sad but true. Most employees barely even know what they are selling most the time. Look at earlier i found a little mom n pop store and went in to look around. They had a 12" rtc x tsn marked as a "prehistoric cat" so when I told the owner what it actually was he argued strongly that it was what it was labelled. So Instead of carrying on I just walked out the store didn't even bother to check out the rest of the store.

If you want festae I would find someone on MFK that breeds them and will ship to you.

That was and still is my original plan. The tank is still kinda new so I didn't want to go thru the hastle of having on shipped from a reputable breeder only to lose him to a mini cycle. I just happened to stop in to my lfs and they had a tank full of whatever these are lol, so i took a shot. I had a bad feeling when it was only labeled "red terror" and not festae but it was a calculated risk.
